In my animation project, I aimed to create a playful and engaging video that combined elements of pop culture with my personal humor. My main characters were three different types of Batman, which I animated using adobe animate. My initial plan was to create a dynamic story that parodied a YouTube-style video, with each Batman experiencing a unique dream sequence after being knocked out. I intended to bring a sense of randomness and surprise to the animation, which I thought would be fun for the audience.
However, as I worked on the project, I encountered several challenges that altered my original plan. The puppet effects I used to animate the Batmans' movements turned out to be less fluid than I expected, leading to a somewhat stiff and awkward presentation. So instead of trying to make it good, I leaned into the bad and relied more heavily on the comedy of the video. Additionally, the transitions between scenes and the pacing of the video felt inconsistent, which made it difficult to maintain a cohesive narrative which I didn't want to have to make it bad but I did it so that it wouldn't look like I was trying AND failing.
Despite these issues, the project was successful in most aspects in my opinion. The voiceover, which I made with some friends in adobe after effects, was a highlight for the class, adding humor and personality to the animation. This feedback made me realize the importance of storytelling through voice and how it can elevate an otherwise lackluster visual presentation.
If I were to do this project again, I would focus more on refining the animation techniques and ensuring smoother transitions between scenes. I would also try and learn the software a little bit better so that my animations could actually be good like some of my other classmates. Overall, this project taught me the importance of attention to detail and the need for thorough pre-production planning to achieve a successful final product.
